Welcome

Welcome to the Brent River College website.

Our fundamental belief is that our students can achieve both academically and personally.

iDream,

iBelieve,

iAchieve.

We are totally committed to our core values of Belief, Respect, Integrity, Vision, Excellence, Responsibility and Courage.

We provide a fresh start for young people who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education.  Our aim is to prepare them for progression to their next stage.

We provide our students with a small, nurturing and academically rigorous environment.  We seek to re-engage them through high expectations, a supportive environment and an expectation that they will follow a largely mainstream curriculum and achieve their qualifications.

We expect to work closely with parents and carers to support their child to prepare them for future success.

Students’ Mental Health

Please let us know if you have any concerns about your child’s mental health.  We have a range of provision we can discuss with you.  There is also Kooth which provides 24 hour, 7 days a week support online.  We have enclosed the letter to parent/carers with this letter, which will explain how to access this.  Our students had a workshop run by Kooth in the Autumn term to let them know that they are available.

Year 11 Examinations

We are following all the Government requirements to be able to submit teacher assessed grades based upon each student’s evidence.  The exam boards will release further assessment support materials on 31st March, that we will use after the Spring break.  We have very few weeks left to assess, moderate assessments and submit the grades.

Please check with Mr Anderson and Mr Bernard that your child is up to date so far.  It is really important that your child attends everyday to complete their assessments.

The feedback so far on our Vocational courses is very promising.  The City and Guilds courses will be completed and externally quality assured as they would be in any other year.  The BTEC courses continue and it is important that your child complete the required assessments.

We are also continuing with ICDL entries and Functional Skills qualifications in English and Mathematics. Your child’s report will let you know what they have achieved so far.
